Are we done yet?

Now that our computer is up and running again and I can access the FEW pictures we have remembered to take over the past few CRAZY months, I am finally doing another post. As I looked at our pics from this spring, I became very nostalgic, wishing I could see my Charlotte friends again. It was really hard to say goodbye, but I'm glad I've had the chance to play a little catch up on the phone.

Moving Day in Charlotte...saying goodbye to the McKinnons, Kerrs and Woodwards

Saying goodbye to Miles Lester and Hunter Rains

So we officially moved in on June 28 and since then we have tried to squeeze in unpacking, organizing, painting, carpentry as well as two family reunions--one to Yellowstone with my family and one to Fishlake with Harland's. Needless to say our house doesn't look like we've been here almost a month--more like a week maybe. The boxes are mostly gone but a disorganized mess of toys, items that need a home, paint cans and ladders serve as decore. You who know me understand that I am the type of person (to my own detriment) that likes to have the dishes done, the toys picked up and the floor swept before I turn in for the night so that I can start the next day fresh. So I am sort of a witchier version of myself because of it. I just have to remind myself that it's OK to pace myself and not stay up working until 1 AM. Yikes, it's hard not to when I three little ones need me every waking minute of the day. I think I spend most of the day helping Henry or Cannon change their clothes for whatever outfit is required for what they want to play next. It's exhausting and the laundry is out of hand, but since we have no schedule (moving meant I didn't have time to think about summer classes or some sort of organized time) I feel I need to let them be imaginitive at home because they'd be bored out of their minds if not. Even our TV isn't hooked up yet. (Although we do have the old VCR/TV in working order!) The other half of my day is feeding Elizabeth while answering Cannon's endless "who would win" questions involving two vicious animals that have never before fought in the wild because they are found on different sides of the planet. For instance:

C:"Mom, who would win: A crocodile or a polar bear?

M: "In or out of the water?"

C: "In the water, but the polar bear has special swimming powers"

M: "Ummmm...Henry, stop jumping on the table.. oh shoot, Elizabeth has a leaky dirty diaper! Huh...what? Oh sorry, um, the crocodile maybe? "

C: Why?

M: "He seems like a better fighter in the water?"

C: "Why?"

etc. etc. etc

By the way, I just have to say that Cannon and Henry almost never give me destructive types of trouble--in other words, they usually don't break or destroy things, it's like they have some inate understanding of it. For that I have been truly blessed....until today...when I went outside my parents cabin to find them amd their cousin throwing rocks at my dad's mercedes. I almost died. It was a painful moment in my personal parenting history that needs no further comment.

Finally, Elizabeth is growing and changing and reminding me I need to get some new pictures posted of her. She is darling and so happy and wonderful. I am enjoying her so much!

Enjoying hanging out with Jodi Lee and kids at her Cabin along the Weber River

Cannon caught a fish at Fishlake! Yay! He said: "Dad, I want to put it on the wall or have it as my little dead pet!"

Oh, good for you! I giggled through this post of yours because I completely understand. Oh, feel in control of life again! As long as I can get a grasp on it before school starts, I think it will be okay.

And I am amazed with how good you look on your moving day. You do everything with such style!

We want to see you soon. Paul and Harland should compare schedules.

So fun to read an update on how you gusy are doing!! Sounds like you are one busy woman! On your end you are unpacking and organizing and on our end I am organizing what to get rid of and starting to pack. We cannot wait to get out there and will definitely have to meet up when we do. Looks like Sept/Oct as soon as our lease is up and we find a rental.

I loved that little convo with Canon about who would win. Such a boy thing. So cute! I can't wait to see little Elizabeth and how she has grown. Take care and tell Harland we said hello too!

heather, every time I read one of your posts I realize why it is that I consider you such a great friend.

I just finished getting the kids down, it's 9 pm, and I am now starting in on cleaning up the endless debris, sticky apple juice on kitchen walls and floor, and mountains of laundry. I too, had vicious animal conversations, and spent a large part of the day "being" a rhino beetle and a poison dart frog. I taught lessons with Caroline on my hip because she wouldn't stand for the sitter. It's good times...

Despite my day, (and yours!), just reading your post put me in a brighter mood. Good luck with settling in. We come into town on Friday. I'll call you, and maybe we could squeeze in an hour together, eh?

xoxo

Boy oh boy, do we miss you guys! I'm glad you're having a crazy, fun summer.

You're going to have your house organized before I do. I've had a whole year, but now I'm freaking out to get it done before the baby--2 1/2 mos and counting!

Miles just came in and asked if he and Cannon can go fishing. I'm not letting him read the part of the post regarding the dead fish on the wall though--he doesn't need any new ideas.

My little dead pet?! That's hilarious. Not to mention the rocks thrown at the mercedes!! Oh man, I'd die too. I just told Tom about the polar bear's special swimming powers... love it. I'm so glad I'm not the only mom with those unanswerable unending questions all day long with non-stop action from the other two at the same time!! So glad you're a "stone's throw" away from our house...we'll just be sure to keep the cars parked in the garage! lol We need to schedule some more fun this week!
