Today we reluctantly returned from a few days on Hilton Head Island, SC. It's a four hour drive from here--and that means we are definitely going back. We stayed in a condo right on the beach! It was a blast!
The whole thing was sort of spur-of-the-moment since Harland agreed to trade a day with another resident and found himself with three and a half days off in a row. So we picked one of the many islands in SC and man, were we blown away! This place was GORGEOUS! It's a tiny island with dense forest everywhere and then perfect, white sandy beaches stretching its coast. The beach was so hard-packed about 10 yards before the water, that you could bike on along it. I've never biked on the beach before. H pulled Cannon on his attachment bike, and I pulled Henry behind me in the bike trailor. We rode up to a little area called Harbor Town and took in the lighthouse and the marina and the little shops. Then we rode bike trails back to our condo and passed pristine golf course after fabulous mansion after pristine golf course! It was so pictuesque! The boys, of course, couldn't get enough of the beach. It was quite a getaway! I wish we had more photos, but the camera battery died on day 2. But I have other pics of Cannon riding with dad on the kid bike attachment. He loves it because he can pedal hard or not at all (unlike a tandem bike) and he thinks he's so tough on it!
One sad thing that happened to Henry...he was stomping around barefoot in some dirt in our backyard last weekend and he started screaming. He was being attacked by fire ants! They were everywhere on his body. Poor kid. His legs looked like something out of Harland's medical books. They're almost healed now though.

Sounds gorgeous! Joe's sister and her family (who also live in Charlotte) just got back from there 2 weeks ago--check out the link called "Flori and Rob" on my blog and read the "Paradise Not Lost" entry--I'm sure you'll see a lot of familiar sights!
Poor Henry and those fire ants :(
